Of course, there’s plenty of fascinating history to discover here in Cooperstown and Otsego County that will give Outlander fans a fuller picture of the world that the Frasers inhabited. Visitors to Fenimore Art Museum can explore the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art, with hundreds of objects that showcase the artistry of indigineous people. Also on site at the museum is a lakeside Haudenosaunee interpretive site featuring a 1790s Seneca Log House and a 1750s reproduction Mohawk Bark House.
A short drive to Cherry Valley brings more fun, and delicious stops to make. Make time for shopping at Plaide Palette, a store specializing in Scottish, Irish, and Welsh items. If you’re feeling hungry, the Tryon Inn is the perfect spot to refuel. During colonial times, Cherry Valley was part of Tryon County, named for Governor William Tryon, who also served as governor in North Carolina. As Outlander fans know, a fictionalized version of Tryon appears in the series as a nemesis for Jamie and Claire.
